"The Laramie Project"
Show Dates | May 2nd, 3rd & 9th, 10th at 7:30pm
Directed by Meggin Dail and Jeff Gregoire

On October 6, 1998, a young, gay college student was beaten, robbed, and left to die on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. The story became a national headline.

On November 14, 1998, The members of Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie to conduct interviews with the people of the town. During the next year, they would return to Laramie several times and conduct over two hundred interviews. What resulted is this play: a montage of interviews, news reports, journal entries, and court transcripts documenting the town’s reactions to this event and the small group of theatre makers’ experiences as they searched for answers.

A striking example of verbatim theatre, this play is constructed entirely of the real words spoken by the residents of Laramie, Wyoming.

This heinous crime places Le Page, a Canadian itinerant woodcutter, in an American courtroom. The Concord Monitor-Patriot, as well as newspapers up and down the East Coast have been offering conflicting opinions as to Le Page's guilt or innocence. The murder and the impending trial have produced a frenzy of emotions that threaten to throw the populace into a mob intent on revenge.
Against this backdrop, Attorneys Norris for the Defense, and Swenson for the Prosecution, duel inside the courtroom. Everyone in the community has been affected by this grisly murder, as Blind Justice weighs Le Page's guilt or innocence and threatens to fracture the community. A Time to Gather Stones, is an historical fictional account of the actual event.
